Curriculum

Curriculum Overview

CCCC offers six (6) different programs designed to provide care for infants six weeks of age to middle school children 12 years of age.

All classrooms are supplied with a weekly and daily curriculum directed at the age appropriate levels.  All classrooms work on the same topics at the same time.  Topics are changed every week and rotate on a 52 week schedule.

This approach allows the younger children a firm foundation of the topics discussed and older children the ability to build upon what has already been taught.

Nursery:

The nursery uses 4 different developmental checklists divided into 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-9 months and 9-12 months.  This offers over 100 different learning opportunities for the child’s first year in addition to 10 different learning centers.

Every infant is given a weekly individualized learning plan to maximize their developmental and brain stimulation.

1's and 2's:

Our 1 year olds focus on increased mobility and language development.  Stable walking, running and kicking a ball are a few of the major muscle movements accomplished in this age group.  Children are able to say approximately 10 -25 words and can identify at least 3 body parts.  There are 10 different learning centers in each classroom for discovery, learning and exploration.  A child’s confidence in their abilities and surroundings in increased through achievement and practice.

The second year is a year of self-expression and the realization of independence.  Potty training becomes a very important stage in this age group. Their vocabulary increases to over 100 words.  Children begin to verbalize their emotions and desires in short sentences.  They begin matching picture items, building small block structures and imitating the world around them by dramatic play.  They are able to understand and follow two to three component requests.  Children are also able turn the pages of a book and make short stories to correspond to the pictures.

3's and 4's:

The curriculum for ages 3-4 year olds is developmentally challenging and yet appropriate, imaginative and helps the children with all skills.  These skills help to develop physical, large motor, fine motor, emotional, math concepts and more.  The children create art projects and play games allowing them to enhance and meet their developmental milestones.  They are able to have fun while learning.  Not only are they provided an enhancement through curriculum but also through centers that coincide with curriculum.  The curriculum is theme based to increase their interest and variety to the topics introduced.  The children enjoy learning about new topics and expanding their knowledge each week.

5's and school age

The curriculum for school-age children assists with school classwork including homework assistance.  The summer program supports the concepts that have been taught in the previous year of classwork and helps to retain information for the upcoming year.  The classroom curriculum is developmentally stimulating, inventive and helps the children with all skills necessary for their fall program. The emphases in this classroom are math, literature, computers, science and discovery to assist in an elementary setting.  The school-age classroom takes approximately 17 field trips during the year to improve their understanding of perceptions and theories.
