Child Care Information

Nursery

Infant (6 weeks - 12 months):

Infants will be stimulated while kept in a secure environment.  The use of lights, sounds, and movable objects will be used during developmental stages.  A variety of positions are available for different stages of development.  The introduction of large soft child proof objects will be introduced as the child reaches those levels.

There is appropriate space for crawling and walking when child is ready for these stages.

Verbal stimulation between child and caregiver will be conducted at all stages of development.

1's and 2's

Toddler (13 months - 24 months):

This age group will continue to work on any tasks that were not mastered during the previous level with the exception of walking.  Children will be required to walk steady prior to this class.

The introduction of new tasks will be based on the individual child and not pressured into attempting tasks that they are not developmentally ready to undertake.  Age appropriate games will be introduced.  These games include but are not limited to patty cake, peek-a-boo, and pass (using a large soft ball).  Identification of body parts such as eyes, nose, mouth, ears, arms, legs and fingers.

Large muscle skills will be developed during both indoor and outdoor play.  Vocabulary and identification of objects within the child\'s environment will be used.  Children will begin to feed themselves during this age group.  A cup (sippy) will be introduced during meals.  Appropriate use of fork and spoon will be instructed and modeled.  Child will become more responsible of personal hygiene before meals, changing tasks that require hand washing, and during potty training.

Toddler (25 months - 36 months):

This age group will continue to work on any tasks that were not mastered during the previous level.  Some children will be ready for basic educational concepts such as colors and shapes.  Identification of these objects will be reinforced.  Independent toilet training and corresponding personal hygiene will become more frequent during this age group.

Children will become more independent during meals and snacks.  Age appropriate art projects will be conducted.  Children will receive daily exposure to reading by staff during scheduled times.   Continued use of identifying objects within the child's environment will be used to build vocabulary.

3's and 4's

Wee Ones (3 -4 year olds):

This age group will continue to work on any tasks that were not mastered during the previous level.  Three to four year old children will be introduced to basic education concepts.  These concepts will include visual identification of numbers, letters, colors and shapes.  Verbal identification will be introduced as required.

Beginning reading steps will be utilized by labeling objects within the child's environment.  Children will receive daily exposure to reading by staff during scheduled times.  Staff will ask a series of questions at the conclusion of the story to reinforce reading comprehension skills.

4's and 5's

Pre-K (4 -5 year olds):

Four to five year old children will build upon previous exposure to educational concepts.  Identification of numbers, letters, colors and shapes will be used as a foundation for this age group.  Multiple task identification including these basic concepts will be introduced.  Sequence events such as counting, alphabet and before and after events will also be used during this time.

Educational tasks will be used to prepare children to enter the structured educational setting.

5's and school age

5's and school age:

Educational goals will build upon the previous exposure to education concepts specific to the child's age group.  Homework assistance will be the first priority for school age children during the school year.  Audio tapes with corresponding print material will be available for basic readers.

Independent print material will begin at the basic reading level and continue to a ninth grade level.  The continuation of reading material surpasses the day care center's age group by three years to challenge the more advanced children.
